Biography
Personal - Marcus was born and raised in Baltimore, MD...He is the son of Denise and Leon West and has two older brothers, Rojack and Jamaal...He enjoys playing video games...His favorite athlete is Allen Iverson...Marcus is a Kinesiology major and plans on taking his basketball career to the professional level.
Prior to FPU - Marcus graduated from Thomas Johnson High School, where he lettered two years on varsity and helped his team to a 47-5 overall record in his junior and senior seasons...He also led his team his senior year to winning the Maryland state championship...Marcus attended San Jacinto Junior College for two years, helping lead the JC program to a conference championship in 2002 and a co-championship in 2003...He led the league in 3-point percentage and was a member of the NJCAA All-Tournament team after guiding San Jacinto to the national championship game of the national JC tournament...He made 43% of his 3-pointers and averaged 16.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game as a sophomore...He scored 14.5 per game as a freshman and finished second on the team in 3-pointers and 3-point percentage...He also grabbed 5.5 rebounds per game his rookie year...After establishing himself as one of the top shooters at the JC level, West was recruited by Fresno State coach Ray Lopes, where he played the 2003-2004 season...He was rated the 26th-best JC transfer in the nation by CBSsportsline.com and averaged 10.3 points per game as a Bulldog his junior year.
As a senior (2008-09) - West transfered to FPU as a senior...He helped guide the Sunbirds to a GSAC championship, a national tournament appearance and a No. 6 national ranking...He scored an average of 16.4 points per game, while shooting 50.2% from the field, 42.8% from behind the arc, and 87.7% from the line...He was also strong in the paint, collecting 134 rebounds (116 defensive) for an average of 4.1 per game, and recorded 46 steals...Notably, West was named GSAC Player of the Week for his performances against Vanguard and Hope International...He averaged 23 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, and had 5 assists and 6 steals to help the then No. 8 ranked Sunbirds win both of their conference games for the week...In those games, West was 16-27 from the field, including 10-19 from 3-point range, and 4-4 from the free throw line...He had 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the Vanguard win...He only played 20 minutes against Hope International and managed to score 34 points, 4 rebounds and 5 steals...He was 12-13 from the field, including an impressive 8-9 from behind the 3-point line.
