Biography

As a Junior (2017) - Appeared in 22 games with 12 starts....batted .222 with two doubles and seven RBI....perfect 5-for-5 in steal attempts.

As a Sophomore (2016) - Appeared in 41 games with 33 starts....recorded six extra base hits....drove in 15 runs....stole six bases....posted two four-hit games (4/2 vs. Dixie State, 4/13 vs. Holy Names)....Named to All-PacWest Third Team....Academic All-PacWest.

As a Freshman (2015) - Appeared in four games, making one start in the outfield....scored a run in win over Academy of Art (4/11)....PacWest Scholar-Athlete.

Prior to FPU - Played four years of baseball at Buchanan High School, including two on varsity for coach Tom Donald....as a senior batted .333, was a city-county all-star, earned the coaches award and the CIF character award....greatest thrill in high school was hitting first career homerun against Clovis West....was class valedictorian.

Personal - Son of Brian and Susie....has a sister, Jenna....chose FPU for its proximity to home as well as its academic and baseball reputation....the people he admires most are his parents....favorite food is pizza....favorite TV show is Intentional Talk on MLB Network....favorite artist is Florida Georgia Line....favorite team is the San Francisco Giants....favorite athlete is Mike Trout....person he'd most like to meet is Buster Posey....attends Northside Christian Church....Derek is a kinesiology - physical therapy major with plans of going into athletic training or physical therapy.
