FRESNO, Calif. — Fresno Pacific hosted the ITA West Regional tournament, welcoming more than 200 student-athletes from 11 NCAA universities for four days of competition. The Sunbirds battled through the opening two days, earning several singles victories and advancing one doubles team to the quarterfinals.
"I'm happy with how the men competed this weekend at our regional tournament here in Fresno," said Head Coach Sam Gaeddert. "I think we showed our depth very well, and the potential is there to have a very productive spring season."
DAY ONE
FPU opened the tournament with a strong showing in singles play, with five Sunbirds advancing past their opening matches.
Cedric Kaufmann defeated Biola's Magistad 6-4, 7-5, while
Jordi Gonzalez earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Point Loma's Chiang.
Diego Yasuda also advanced with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Westmont's Nakamura.
Louis Brosius rallied past Colorado Mesa's Blanch 4-6, 6-3, 10-8, and
Tim Bangert secured a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Westmont's Bringas to move on.

Kazumi Tani,
Felix Devallius and
Joaquin Salinas battled in their opening singles matches but moved into the consolation bracket after falling to their opponents.
In doubles, Kaufmann and Salinas led the way for the Sunbirds, earning victories over Biola (8-5) and Westmont (8-3) to advance to the second day.
Three additional FPU pairs picked up opening-round wins. Devallius and Brosius defeated Colorado Mesa 8-4 before falling to Hawaii Pacific. Bangert and Lorenzo opened with an 8-5 win over Hawaii Hilo before dropping an 8-4 decision to Point Loma. Gonzalez and Yasuda also advanced past Biola with an 8-4 victory before falling to Hawaii Pacific.
DAY TWO
The Sunbirds faced a challenging second day of competition. In doubles, Kaufmann and Salinas saw their run come to an end in the quarterfinals with an 8-5 loss to Hawaii Pacific. Gonzalez continued to battle in singles, opening the day with a 6-2, 7-5 victory to advance to the next round. However, he later fell 7-5, 6-4, concluding the FPU men's teams' competition in the tournament.
